Tumut sits right at the gateway to the Snowy Mountains, shaped by the Tumut River’s crystal-clear waters. It's a place built for those who love fishing, hiking, and the kind of adventures that feel like they could go on forever. Hard work, good stories, and a fair bit of cheeky fun—that’s what keeps this place ticking. Every season here tells a new tale, from the golden hues of autumn to the crisp bite of winter air. Tumut’s heart runs deep, with fresh local produce and ideas blooming around every corner. We’re all about the spirit of Tumut—the laughs, the curiosity, and the folks who roll up their sleeves to enjoy the beauty in the everyday. It’s this spirit that flows through every beer we brew: packed with character, as refreshing as a dip in the Tumut River, and never too serious. Tumut River Brewing Co. started out in 2014, but it didn’t begin as a brewery. Nope, it all began with two mates, Tim and Simon, who worked at a local tyre service. They spent their days turning wrenches and dreaming big in the back of a shed. One day, they decided it was time to swap tyres for hops, and so the idea was born: “Because two mates wanted to make great beer.” Fast forward a few years, and that dream turned into the brewpub we all know and love. The brewery quickly grew into a local favourite, loved by the community, adventurers, and beer lovers alike. But like many small businesses, we hit some rough patches and had to close up shop in September 2024. But we didn’t let that stop us. Former staff legends, Michael Cichocki and Mary Richmond, stepped in, bought the business back, and got the taps flowing once again. A lot of the former staff—who had worked here for years and loved the place just as much as Michael and Mary—were re-hired, bringing back those familiar faces that make this place feel like home. They’re the heart and soul of Tumut River Brewing Co., and without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today.
